We have just returned from a lovely three weeks in Flensburg, Germany.
Randi’s mother lives in this far northern fjord city which borders Denmark, as do a number of her friends.
We were very lucky to have the use of the ground floor of Claudia and Steffens (Two friends) house with garden and all!
This was also the first time we had put the new station car to real use. It did very well! Completing the 3 – 4 hour trip on less than half a tank of Diesel and the return trip with the car loaded (incl. roof carrier!) on half a tank. A good, economical car.
On the trip down to Flensburg and the following week, we experienced heat-wave temperatures. The sun baked down on our umbrella which shaded the “splash pool” and naked baby bodies in the back garden. The kids LOVED it! (See photos.)
On the first weekend we took a trip (1-2 hours drive) down to just south of Hamburg (over the Elba river) to visit Randi’s aunt Jutta and her family.
The sun was still welcoming us to Germany in a big way and the babies took the opportunity to take a quick dip there too.
This area is “Cherry country” and it was cherry season so we picked; bought and ate huge amounts of the best cherries ever.
On the way bake to Flensburg we had a little traffic jam on the “Autobahn” and came to an absolute stop and stayed there for at least 45 min. Victoria got her first driving lessons. (See photo.)
For the rest of our stay in Flensburg we had a mix of very good warm weather with a number of heavy rainy days which came with refreshing cooler air. We were at the beach twice and the children bathed on both occasions. They are real water babies and loved the not too warm water. We couldn’t spend much time on the beach though, as we are careful of their baby skins and the suns harsh rays. But the back garden with umbrella was perfect.
A very big thanks must go to Claidia and Steffen for letting us stay in their very “baby/toddler friendly” apartment and to Flori for baby sitting for us a couple of times letting the parents enjoy their first nights having dinner out!
Enjoy the photos which follow.
