Mini Passports

We (the whole family) will be flying to Germany in a months time and the babies need passports, with photographs!!

We are applying for German passports first and then we will get South African passports for them as well.

The photographer refused to take the photos himself, so we had to take photos and then give them to him to be developed.
After half an hour of trying to get perfect 'mug shots' of the babies, I understood the photographers motives!

The first photos are the ones which were used and the 'bloopers' in the slide-show, below, are...well...bloopers.

The Usual Suspects...

Busy Days

It seems like we have been home from the hospital for a long, long time, but in fact this is only our second/third week home. We have experienced the strange feeling of coming home to all that WAS normal when we left, but now we stand in our home with two little babies in our arms and all that was so normal is suddenly changed. The television seems uninteresting, the Olympics…”Oh, we didn’t really know that they were happening!” ‘Dinner time’ is anywhere between 17:00 and 23:59, and usually is accompanied by loud shouts and naked breasts!

Warren goes back to work on Monday (25th August) and Randi will be left alone with our two babies for the first time since they were born. Mom has been practicing and perfecting the art of breast feeding (including lifting, placing and ‘burping’) two babies at the same time. This is strongly advised for twins, to save time. They have been breast fed at the same time since day 1, but Dad has always been there to help with the practicalities. Randi is also slowly but surely on the mend after the Caesarean operation. We wish Randi all the best of luck and lots of patience.

Since we got home from the hospital a lot of our time and energy has been spent on building the twin’s body weight up to what it was when they were born (Hamilton 3.2 kg and Victoria 2.2 kg). We have had a strict routine of feeding which goes as follows:- every third hour they get woken up and breast fed for 20 minutes. After this they get bottle fed with 45 and 35 ml of milk supplement. Then they get put on the breast again for “Desert”. This last step is more to stimulate milk production and we use them as living breast pumps… This happens about 8 times a day and takes about 45 minutes, each feed.

We can be very proud of our efforts!! Hamilton gained 300grams and Victoria gained 250grams in one week!! That brings them both up to ‘birth weight’ and we can change their feeding routine.
We now give them slightly less milk supplement and let them (and us) sleep an hour longer in between feeds. This makes a very big difference to us during the night time!!

So, as you can see, we are slowly (quickly…?) settling down and finding some sort of sanity in this insanely chaotic time in our lives.

The two new members of our family become more ‘integrated’ and wonderful by the day. We are filled with love and anticipation.

First Week Home

We've been home for 1 week now and things are moving in the right direction.
After a couple of sleepless nights and crying babies (a couple), we have found some routine.

The routine is basically, "sleep, change nappy, feed, put to sleep...".
It takes two of us about 1 hour to change, feed and put to bed the twins and this has to be done every three hours...That gives us about two hours between each session.

The babies are breast fed and receive milk supplement to increase their weight quicker.
We hope to eventually do away with the milk supplement and have only breast milk, but this will only happen after they have reached above their 'birth weight' and the supplement will be gradually decreased.

An abbreviated description of this week could be "little sleep and lots of love."

What's in a name...?

Victoria Florentine Probst Linde – Dad’s family name is ’Linde’, Moms family name is ’Probst’.
Randi’s mothers name is Florentine and we think it is a pretty name.
We don’t know any particular ‘Victorias’ but after thinking about it for a long time and thinking of a lot of “girl names”, we decided that Victoria was a beautiful, strong, yet poetic name for a girl and also for a grown woman.

Nils Hamilton Probst Linde - Dad's family name is ’Linde’, Moms family name is ’Probst’.
Hamilton was the name of one of Warren’s forebears (from the 1800’s). Again we think this is a name which sounds good to the ear. It is not hard but full of strength and poise.

Nils…This one takes some explaining…

The first born son of Warren’s family has always had the name Nils. In my case Warren Nils, my father Nils Alec, grandfather Nils Ivor, Nils August, etc, etc. So it is an honour for us to be able to call our first born Nils Hamilton.

There is a catch though…!! This boy will NOT be called Nils…!?
“What?” You may think.
No, he will be called Hamilton and the “Nils” is just an extra name. This has always been so in my family.

So really one would talk about Victoria and Hamilton (not Victoria and Nils) and that, my friends, has a wonderful ring to it! Don’t you think so?

They're Here

It is our extreme pleasure to announce to you and the world the arrival of the other members of our family!!

Our babies were born at 14:09 and 14:10 on the 5th of August 2008.

The first to arrive into this world, Nils Hamilton Probst Linde, weighing 3200grams was well and healthy, as was his sister, Victoria Florentine Probst Linde who weighed 2200 grams.

Mother and babies are all well and a little tired after the big day (Dad is over the moon!).

We will probably not be checking our e-mails/answering telephones as regularly in the first week or two after birth but we will get back into all that in time.

A great round of Congratulations to the new parents, Grand Parents, cousins, aunts and uncles, great aunts/uncles and great grand parents!!!!

HipHip HURRA!!!!!!!

Happy family regards
Randi, Warren, Hamilton and Victoria
